About me.

I'm a student studying in Cumbria originally from Suffolk.
I've been interested in design for about 6 or 7 years now, having had full access to the Adobe Creative Cloud throughout that time throughout college and university, so I'm pretty handy with all the essentials.
I have a keen interest in editorial design, branding and advertising in the design world, and a deep interest in motorsports, photography and nature in the real world.
I have had placements with The Chase in Manchester and Brix Design in Stowmarket along with experience visiting studios such as Studio Walden in Carlisle, The Creative Hutch in Carlisle and Glorious Creative in Manchester city centre.
I am currently working through my third and final year at the University of Cumbria, keep up to date with what I'm doing by checking my project blogs for each semester.

So far at uni.

Work from home.

2023 —  Formula E posters.
2022 — Being a creative means that you get random brain waves at silly O'Clock at night, so here are some retro styled posters fro some Formula One icons over the years that I made on Photoshop late one night this week. Things like this is what everyone should be doing as it is just us going along with a random idea which keeps our creativity up.
2021 — I have been working on some digital and hand based collages, just to keep that consistent sprinkling of design in my life. I started off with some pretty basic digital collages using images from Unsplash.com and then whacked them into Photoshop to see what I could come up with if I just sat and played around for a bit. The usual theme between them all is the sense of something that doesn't belong there, but is familiar enough for the designs to work and can be quite aesthetically pleasing to look at in a way.
After working digitally, I then gave it a go by hand by using a war magazine to create some quite patriotic feeling designs, like the sort of things you would have expected to see during the war. The magazine was full of old images and lots of bold text so I just cut them out and stuck them together, so there wasn't much thought into the actual meanings of the designs, more just for the overall look to them.
After getting four nice designs, I scanned them into Photoshop so I could start adding some old textures and slightly adjusting the layout of the designs until I was happy enough to start placing them into some mockups as I do love using mockups in Photoshop. I started playing around with the layouts to almost turn them into some sort of a movie poster alongside the bus and what have you, I just thought they worked really well and looked quite smart.
2020 — Over the summer I do tend to get a bit bogged down with not doing design and creative work which would mean I don't get the most out of education when I start again in September, but I have been telling myself to work a bit harder over the summers just so I can get the most out of my skills and to keep up my creativity. So I have been giving myself different tasks and projects behind the scenes and working with some clients!
As you can probably see from most of the images above, I am mostly just using vector images and tools as that is what I really enjoyed using in college, so I know that I have got to experiment more while here at uni!
Just using the Pen Tool in Illustrator, I was able to create some really smart looking designs, mostly of cars, or history related as I tend to really get into that with projects.

College work.

College was the big turning point for me, as it was the moment that design changed from just something to do as an easy A-level pass to where I have decided to go for my future career. I was fairly lucky in the fact that I got an extra year on a lower level course with some amazing lecturers that showed me the basics of design and what is possible when you really tried.
So, what are these images you ask?
Each row of three are from a different project spreading through my three years at college, starting with my first Final Major Project where I created a 24 page magazine including a poster for every Formula One race that year, each being related to the venue, different driver and their team, so I ended up with a wide range of different work.
Next, was the first year of Graphic Design, and you may notice that I had a lot of fun when playing with the photocopiers, with which I made a range of posters for different phobias while letting the photocopiers do most of the work while I just messed around with the settings.
We move onto the third and final year of college where I really hit the stride with my work, having three really fun projects, from making some movie posters and screen printing them, from creating an entire deck of playing cards in the theme of the mystery of the universe through to creating a travel magazine with which I just started playing with lots of new colours and new techniques including much more detail to what I had done before.
As a last little look at my college work, these are just a range of animations that I have worked on in those three years for different projects, and most of these were done in After Effects or for a couple like the logo animation were made in Photoshop so that I could get a really smooth animated feel to them which I thought worked really well.
