Branding & Publicity – The Hovercraft Museum.
This project sees me tackling the rebrand of the Hovercraft Museum.
The Hovercraft Museum.
From first inspection, this doesn't look like the most exciting or pleasant place in the world, unless you happen to like hovercrafts a lot.
Experience the museum for yourself on street view.
Mostly good reviews, none bad in the past 5 years which is quite something.

Williams Racing Formula One liveries over the years. From the iconic Canon livery back in the 90's, Williams aimed at creating some nostalgia by releasing this gopping livery for the FW43B back in 2021. Thankfully, they went down a much more aesthetically pleasing route in 2022 with a funky darker livery incorporating the logo into the design.
Downfall of Mclaren in 2018 to their giddy heights in 2022 with plenty of sponsors wanting to be involved.
Camden Town Brewery, recognisable since its birth in 2010.
Adnams of Southwold Brewery brand from over the years including their Christmas advertising from outside their main shop in Southwold, Suffolk.
Nissan are one amongst the crowd that have rebranded over the past few years to make them look much cleaner and more modern, it's a shame their cars still look miserable after the rebrand.
I know you're probably not as interested in motorsport as I am, but Formula E rebranded itself back in December to this much more flowing and out-there style, which at the time felt like an all inclusive holiday to Benidorm rather than a serious motorsport, but after a couple races this year, it works really well especially with the new tv graphics to go alongside.
Oops, another racing logo. This is the evolution of the Formula 1 logo through the years changing to match its target audience which has been going to a younger generation as of late.
I only discovered Booths from going on holidays to The Lakes, but I never caught onto their product designs until a day trip a couple months ago. They have a really plain, simple and yet funny design to the majority of their own products.
Apple, less is more.
Local museum, Tullie House just had a rebrand too, not anything dramatic, works very well.
Found a bit of branding for the get voting campaign from last year which caught my eye.
Good ol' Draplin.
Big Type book.
Meter Magazine – use of splash pages and information presented on a page.
Rouleur Magazine – type on splash pages combined with imagery.
100 Years of Le Mans, a Celebration – use of imagery.
Magneto Magazine – the way they combine type with imagery.
Logos that sit well with me.
Jodrell Bank branding by Johnson Banks
Science Museum rebrand by Johnson Banks.
Echo by Pentagram.
Some non specific research for my board in the studio.
This is a look into the museum's target audience, for which I have aimed at an older range as I imagine that these are the people most likely to come and visit on a weekend.
Testing out different typefaces for a logo idea.
Working on the cross part for the logo, testing slightly different colours.

After putting loads of different variations of this poster design into this mockup, I thought it would be worth making a little video showing a handful of small variations of the design into the mockup to show how it evolves into the final design.

With this final poster design, I decided to play back with using capital letters at the beginning of sentences, which makes it relate more to the older part of my target audience while also linking to the family part of it. This means going back in and adjusting all of the designs that I have already done to make them all feel a part of the same brand which is a key part of this project.
