West Walls Brewing Co – Beer labels.

A project every student dreams of, beer cans, double points for it being with a local brewery!

First research looking into designs that West Walls Brewing Co like, along with some designs that caught my eyes on Pinterest.
Initial sketches of any rough ideas for the beer can labels.
Exploring typography for the first beer 'Nitro Man', while using their logo as the main eye catching part of the designs.
Exploring some hand drawn typography by scanning it in and going over it with the pen tool.
Playing around with different textures in the background to try and show the idea of it all looking like it has been printed on.
Some more sketches, this time locking in on 'Too Easy' to try and find some other solutions to get the project going.
Coming back to play around with a different flavour to try some new ideas, starting with choosing some typefaces for 'Too Easy'.
Playing around quickly by extending the tops and bottoms of the condensed typeface to then add a small rectangle for the same information but clearer to make this a pure type based can design.
After just half an hour or playing around, I already have a solution that actually looks really smart.
Experimenting with some imagery which matches the taste of the beer. You could easily imagine the type interacting with the image of the flowers to show some consideration.
Exploring different ideas.
Experimenting with different layouts for the Too Easy, as I felt like my past ideas were too far from the brand image that West Walls are aiming for, so I have used their typeface and provided colours.
First idea down in a mockup to get a better visualisation of it.
Playing around with a couple other ideas, using less colours and working on a layout that you could use across the different flavours.
Placing these ideas into a quick mockup.
Switching the colours around to better suit each flavour.
I found another free mockup, this time with a few more cans and much better quality and more true to size so I have uploaded my latest ideas into them and they look really smart as a set.
Making small adjustments to get the designs to fit a little better on the mockups.
Now they are much more visually appealing after some slight tweaks.
Doing some experimenting to come up with a new route to go down to make this project have more personality and joy about it.
Some more experimentation in mockups to try and work out which look best in the real world.
Trying to settle down for one design to go forward with.
Taking these designs into a mockup really helps me visualise what looks better and what doesn't.
An insight into my organised chaos.
Adding in the last little details into the labels.
Making sure the text will fit ok on the agles that will be seen by the customers.
How I've decided to go about creating the keg badges by reinforcing the identity of the cans.
All the other keg badges for the different flavours.
I found a photo online of a beer tap with 4 keg badges on and simply put mine over the top to make them feel more believable.
I decided to look at all the little opportunities that I could reinforce the brand into, so I gave them some customised tap handles which really brings it all together for the front of the bar.
Again, using the existing brand elements to create the base for some beer coasters.
Mockups of these coaster designs.
Got them all unprofessionally printed out and mockup up on cans that are the same size and some of my old beer mats, they have come out really well.
Every can and its related beer mat, along with a group shot of us all after we presented them to West Walls, we all did a great job.
