Weather — Editorial Project.

This project sees us creating a 32 page magazine, exploring the theme of "weather".

Our Weather brief.
Visual inspiration for editorial spreads.
Visual inspiration for contents pages.
Visual inspiration for front covers.
Visual inspiration for creativity.
Some rough ideas about magazine names and target audiences.
Making a start with sketching ideas for the layout of all the pages.
Printing off text to see what works well and what doesn't.
A design that caught my eye.
Working in InDesign to sort out the 'splash' for my first article in the style of the image above.
My idea printed out.
Working through the rest of the article.
Printing out my tweaks as I go along.
Final double page spreads for this article.
Opening page for another article, this one is about the Carlisle flooding.
Looking into David Carson and Vaughn Oliver to go outside of my comfort zone.
Merging my research into an idea for the 'splash' page.
Couldn't settle with it so I rearranged the type and changed the image.
I have edited the image to feel a little more weathered to suit the style of Vaughn Oliver a little more.
Developing the following page for the article.
Working on my last 'splash' page.
I liked the type from the last 'splash' page so much that I am going to use it for the actual magazine branding, which I have named SEEK for now. These pages in bright colours will feature throughout the magazine to break up all of the articles.
Starting to come up with an idea for the front cover.
I didn't like the name SEEK, so we now have GO until I change my mind again.
Further front cover development.
Back cover development.
Updating my intervening pages.
Working on the contents page.
Some mockups to show how the designs are looking up to now.
Tweaking the splash page.
Creating the 'turn' page for the last article.
Using Photoshop AI to remove the green pipe in this image to let the text stand out more.
Working on a previous article, adding in some statistics in the bold typeface to show consistency.
Reworking an older article to fit in roughly with the consistent styling, while still linking to Vaughn Oliver.
Small tweaks to this article including changing the statistics typefaces for consistency, and moving the body copy away from the spine so it will be easier to read when it is printed.
Removing the hyphens and putting a slash, also adding in a '0' in front of the '6'.
Reworking the front cover.
Some final mockups.
More final mockups.
Final mockup.
