Degree Show Branding.
Creating the degree show branding.
Visual research.
Narrowing the research to things that we want from the degree show.
Initial sketches and ideas while I've been on the move.
Using the white, black and magenta in a new way, big and bold, by putting it in a very rough mockup of the balcony in the studio.
Trying to create a logo for the UoC degree shows to create the brand front and messing with colours.
Using the negative space to create a more interesting look for the brand logo.
Integrating relevant shapes that link in the with courses here in with the type to give it more personality and to create a strong word mark, only realising that it looks more like Go Ape rather than a degree show.
Looking and experimenting with new typefaces that could work well with the degree show branding.
Creating different icons for every course in the university.
Playing around with Coolors.co to find some colours that could potentially work their way into the branding for the show.
A more believable logo idea.
Quick ideas with the layout for the posters, combining the colours, typography and icons that I have been playing around with over the last day or two.
Introducing imagery into the designs to add some more 'studenty' personality using stock images from Unsplash to get the rough idea across.
Experimenting with colours to find a fun and professional colour palette.
Taking the layout further to develop a personality that people can relate o and understand.
Taking the idea of fun and going mad with it, using the icon designs to play a bigger role than originally intended.
Working out how I am going to go about creating a poster for the show as a whole.
Experimenting with an added typeface to give the branding more of a personality and to push the tone of voice identity.
Seeing potential to be playful with the type on the posters.
Using this serif typeface to push the designs further.
Creating some postcards to possibly use in the degree show.
Perspective welcome sign, this idea would mean that both of these graphics are visible depending on where you stand looking towards it.
Working out how the canteen window graphics could look.
I have been picky with my typeface in the branding as I much prefer the different variation of the 'a', which I have been back and manually changed them.
Identity crisis, I have been struggling a lot to come up with the overall poster style for this branding campaign, this image shows the different avenues I have been looking down and this is one file out of five that I have been struggling with, this being by far my favourite by making the poster just mainly type based.
Here is a quick look at my rough idea for the future of the branding development in this project, using type to make everything stand out nicely.
Now that I have the route that I want to go down, I can tailor it to fit into every advertising media that we are using, like these lamp post banners out on the driveway.
Using the same specs to work out how it could work on the Civic Centre in town.
Placing the updated canteen graphics in some mockups.
Potential to get a bus advertisement, so I have quickly mocked it up to see if it would be successful or not.
Degree show signage. It is only fair that the signage around the degree show matches the branding I have done so far, so here are some examples of the course signage to make it clear to the guests what they are looking for.
This is my first attempt at wayfinding for the signage around the event, trying to make it as clear as possible for people to find their way around the campus and all of the exhibitions.
A mild meltdown lead me to playing around with little stick figures to place around the campus for non exhibition related things which could potentially stay up for future years, just to bring some life and joy to the event.
Adding in some imagery to make the posters on the driveway capture the attention of passers by from the eye contact of students.
The comparison between the block colours and imagery on the driveway posters and I really can't tell which ones I prefer. It is a shame that I used a black background as I ended up losing all the background colours.
Reworking the magazine advert that is due to be submitted today at late notice! I have tried playing around with imagery this time rather than the pure filled shapes to see if I could get any better outcomes for it. Also, I have had to be more careful with the margins to make sure it would be able to be read anywhere in the magazine itself.
The final submission for the magazine advert, which I realised still had 'http://' on it and it was too late to remove it before it was sent to be published.
Quick mockup to show how the updated magazine advert would fit in with other information in the magazine.
Working on a design for some t-shirts which we could wear during the show week.
Settling with the block colour for the posters on the driveway, fitted with all the correct information.
The final mockups for the driveway banners with the last designs in them.
Finalising the A3 posters ready to be sent of for printing soon.
Testing the legibility of the A3 posters by printing them out and sticking them to a wall.
Tweaking the railing banner to be outside the front of the University.
Since it was nice outside again today, I took a couple photos of the railings on my phone and used Photoshop to place the banner artwork over them to see how it might look in the real world.
Reworking the lamp post banner to make sure there is plenty of space on the top and bottom to avoid letting the stitching of the banner to overlap any text or logos.
Starting work on the design for the notebook front, which is in black and white as it can only be printed in one colour on recycled cork, so black and white would make the most amount of sense to use.
The final attempt at the front of the notebook, with the bold icon for the show in the centre and the rough edges to make it look like it has been printed out, rather than just having two logos on it with not much concern over the design of it.
Minor tweaks to let the logos fit more accurately inside the black shape.
A quick mockup made in Photoshop by taking a photo of last year's notebook and placing my own design over the top of it.
Working on the Einvite that will be ready to send out over the next week or two. This includes the basic information for the event in a clear way for guests to easily read and understand.
As I have left the map to last due to some confusion on how it looks and where it will go, I have only just got around to coming up with some ideas for it. I think I am going to go down the route of having a fairly simplistic map to save some time and effort while also being easy to understand.
I have gone back into every set or artwork to adjust the colours ready for printing.
I have been in on Indesign to make a rough template for everyone to use when it comes to creating the booklets to hand out.
This is what the same template would look like with my images in to fill the blank space.
To go alongside those templates, I have made a rough front and back cover.
Final adjustments to get the A3/A5 posters out and printed.
It is deadline day and I have just managed to squeeze in this photo of the real canteen windows!
